MilitaryCampgrounds.info is built as a research directory, not a scrape of campground names. The master database keeps public listings, records that need follow-up and locations intentionally excluded from the public map separate so the website can be updated as official information changes.
What we verify
- Campground name and military installation or sponsoring organization.
- Current official military, MWR, FSS, MCCS, Coast Guard or National Guard web source when available.
- Public operating status and whether the location still appears to be military-operated.
- Campground coordinates and the precision of the map pin.
- Published RV and tent-site counts when an official source provides them.
- Hookup information, eligibility notes and other core listing details when they can be verified.
Why some fields say “Not listed”
We do not turn estimates into exact facts. If an official source does not publish a reliable site count, eligibility statement or hookup detail, the database can leave that field blank rather than inventing a value from an old third-party page.
Official sources come first
The directory prefers direct campground pages and current installation recreation pages. When a direct page is unavailable, the database can retain the best current official directory or recreation source and mark that limitation for later review.
What HOLD means in the research database
A location may remain in the master research file but be withheld from the public website when current evidence shows it is no longer military-operated, the status is unclear, or the record needs additional verification. HOLD records are reviewed again during future audits.
How map coordinates are handled
Coordinates are tracked with a precision note. When the exact campground pin cannot be confirmed, the record can be flagged for pin review rather than presenting a best-guess coordinate as exact.
Last verified dates
The “Last Verified” field records the most recent database audit date for the listing. It does not mean every campground policy will remain unchanged after that date, which is why each page also points travelers to the official source.
Corrections from travelers
The website includes a report form so users can flag possible errors. A user report is treated as a lead for research, not as an automatic database change. The information is checked against an official source before the public listing is updated whenever possible.
