Who is behind the site?
MilitaryCampgrounds.info is a project of Steven Gallaher, an Army veteran, author and the creator of Campfires and Motors. Steven and his family began traveling full time in their RV in January 2025. His background includes 11 years as an Army Blackhawk crew chief, mechanic and technical inspector.
Military experience and full-time RV travel bring a practical perspective to this directory: finding a campground is only the first step. A traveler also needs to understand eligibility, installation entry, the campsite and the arrival process.
What the directory provides
The national map, state pages and campground records help you compare locations along a route. Each listing identifies its official source where available and shows the database verification date. The camping guides explain the questions to ask before you reserve or travel.
Directory research is not a firsthand review. A listing does not mean Steven has stayed at that campground. The site separates facts from official sources, practical planning advice and details that have not been confirmed.
Research and corrections
Read how campground information is verified for the source standards, missing fields and HOLD records used in the research process. A database audit date is not a promise that every rule is unchanged today; the official campground or installation remains the authority for current policy.
