A campground having RV sites does not automatically mean it is comfortable for a 40-foot fifth wheel, long travel trailer or motorhome with a towed vehicle. Older military recreation areas can have tight roads, trees, short back-in pads or installation gates that matter as much as the campsite itself.
What big-rig travelers should verify
- Maximum site length and whether that number includes the tow vehicle.
- Back-in versus pull-through layout.
- Road width, turning room and tree clearance inside the campground.
- Electrical service and whether a long rig can reach the pedestal without unsafe extensions.
- The correct installation gate for RV traffic.
- Whether overflow or dry-camping sites can accommodate the total combination length.
Larger military RV parks to investigate
The following directory records have comparatively high published RV-site counts. A large site count does not prove that every pad fits a big rig, but these are logical starting points when researching larger military RV facilities.

A 100-site campground can still contain short or older pads. Conversely, a small campground may have a few long pull-through sites. When your total combination is near the upper end of normal RV lengths, call instead of relying on a generic “RV site” description.
Measure the whole setup
Know the motorhome or trailer length, truck length, overall combination length, height and width. If you carry bikes, a cargo rack or a rear-mounted spare, include those in the measurement.
